Can I use my iridium 9555 satellite phone to access the internet?
In theory yes, however in practice the no. The reality is that altho Iridium themselves supply a disk and user interface search engine the 2.4 kbps download stream means that anything with pictures or graphics takes for ever t load.
In the mean time you are being charged per minute download speed. So although it may be possible the reality is unless you are using a compression software to reduce the size of the download I wouldn't.
However their are many partners working with Iridium to make more accessable through their network including packet data compression software which can help you download weather maps and graphs for sailing.
So although you can get your emails and send email unless it was weather packets I would stay clear of using my iridium 9555 for surfing the web and use a Bgan instead. To lear more about Bgans contact us or click through to Bgan above.
